Sometimes, sharing isn’t always caring…

First and foremost, congratulations to our upcoming class of 2021!

2020 has definitely been an interesting year. To put it simply:

2020plans

On a more serious note, this year has been a trying one, to say the least, and the most concerning year in terms of public safety and health.

COVID-19 — otherwise known as coronavirus — has affected us all in more ways than one. The pandemic has left us with a "new normal": unable to see our friends at school, visiting everyday places, or, unfortunately and realistically, experiencing the ones we know and love become directly affected.

Island Photography has worked tirelessly to make sure that we do our part to follow New York state regulations, and then some, to prevent the spread of the virus. We’ve worked alongside your schools to maintain social distancing guidelines and more to ensure your safety while being able to celebrate your success.

Now, why did we say “sharing isn’t always caring”?

Well, come Picture Day at school, you know the drill.

The tuxedos and off-the-shoulder tops to get you and your fellow classmates looking your most dapper self for your yearbook pictures...
… or the graduation caps and gowns to preview what’s to come…

We would rotate a set amount of these articles of clothing amongst the graduating class in each school, but due to COVID-19, we’ve had to do things a little differently.

Since there isn’t a reliable system to sanitize the wardrobe in the amount of time we photograph students, we’ve decided, in conjunction with the school administration, to not provide shared wardrobe.

“Well then, what do we do now?”

We know that hearing this is disappointing, and trust us — it’s disappointing for us too. We want to provide you with the iconic, “Hey, I’m graduating!” school portrait with the tuxedo, the off-the-shoulder drapery, your caps and gowns, but we care about your safety first.

We’ve photographed some of the graduating classes already, and some of you have shown your determination to keep the classic yearbook portrait-look alive!

We’ve been told of some wonderful (and of course, affordable!) substitutes, such as these:

That look… well, basically just like ours (and photograph just like them, of course).

Unfortunately at this current time, we’re also unable to photograph you all in your literal, “Hey, I’m graduating!” portrait with your cap and gown. However, when your school orders them, we’re hoping (and wishing!) that we can schedule to photograph your pièce de résistance at a later date.

We look forward to Picture Day and if you have any questions, we're here for you!

Stay safe and healthy,
